MFD says large fire at apartment complex near Airport that injured two firefighters was electrical

The Memphis Fire Department responded to the apartment fire at 2270 Candlewyck Circle around 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2023.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Fire Department investigators said a large apartment fire Friday was an accidental electrical fire.

MFD responded to an apartment fire at in the 2200 block of Candlewyck Circle off Airways Blvd. near Memphis International Airport around 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2023. The fire department said the fire was brought under control at 11:38 a.m.

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition after battling the fire. MFD said one had passed out and the other had a superficial burn to their shoulder. 

No civilian injuries reported, MFD said.

The blaze engulfed one of the apartment buildings, and MFD said six units were destroyed. 

Investigators said the fire started at a kitchen stove, and they called it accidental and electrical.

Red Cross assistance was made available for residents
