A man is facing charges after a large police presence closed off Cottonwood and Mendenhall on Wednesday night due to a crash.
Larico Woods, 23, was charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest (2X), reckless driving, and theft of property $2,500-$10,000.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 15, MPD said they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver, Woods, put the car in reverse and hit the police car. No officers were injured.
Police later said they found the car, along with another car, crashed into a pole at Cottonwood Road and Mendenhall Road.
The car had been stolen, according to police.
Two suspects, a 15-year-old passenger and Woods, were detained and taken to hospitals, both in non-critical condition.
Woods was later released from the hospital and booked into jail. The 15-year-old remains at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, police stated.
MPD said Woods also had warrants for convicted felon in possession of a firearm, evading arrest, failure to appear in a misdemeanor case, theft of property $10,000-$60,000, burglary of a building, vandalism $2,500-$10,000 and burglary of a business (3X).
Around the same time of the incident, a power outage in the area was reported, according to Memphis Light, Gas and Water's (MLGW) outage map. The power outage was affecting over 700 customers as of about 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
