Late-night crash leaves one dead, MPD says

A car lost control and ran off the road, crashing into a light pole, leaving a passenger dead.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — A person is dead following a late-night crash on Saturday, Oct. 12, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

Officers responded to a fatal crash at S. Bellevue St. and Saxon Ave at 10:53 PM on Saturday, Oct. 12.

A 2006 Scion tC was driving on S. Bellevue Street when it tried to pass another car. The Scion lost control, steered off the road to the right, hitting a light pole on the driver's side. 

MPD says the driver fled the scene and has not been identified.

The passenger was taken to Methodist University Hospital, where he reportedly died from his injuries.

Police say this is a preliminary report, and the crash investigation is ongoing.
