LeMoyne-Owen College receives $75,000 grant to put together men's volleyball team

"This generous support propels us further toward the formidable institution we all know LeMoyne-Owen can be," Dr. Christopher B. Davis of LeMoyne-Owen College said.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A historical institution in the Memphis area is reportedly adding a new sports team thanks to a sizeable grant.

LeMoyne-Owen College announced on Saturday, Feb. 17, that a men's volleyball team will be starting their first season in 2024 thanks to $75,000 that First Point Volleyball Foundation is giving to the HBCU (Historically Black College or University).

With this announcement, the college becomes the seventh Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SIAC) NCAA Div. II HBCU to add the sport and the 69th school to sponsor the fast-growing sport at the NCAA DI-II level.

The gift is said to be granted over a period of three years to assist with start-up costs and to provide funding to LOC Athletics as they provide support, facility improvements, recruiting expenses and other services to men's volleyball athletes.

"This generous support propels us further toward the formidable institution we all know LeMoyne-Owen can be," Dr. Christopher B. Davis of LeMoyne-Owen College said. "This enriches our campus community and provides invaluable opportunities for our student-athletes."
