WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (localmemphis.com) – Two groundbreakings were held Tuesday on two major projects in WestMemphis.
Leaders came together first for a groundbreaking at the city’snewest fire station and police sub-station. Then an hour later, they met backup to dig dirt for the new municipal courthouse. The city hasn’t had a new onesince 1931.
These are just a portion of the new projects announced for thearea over the last several months. And they are an important part of the city’sgrowth.
“I’m very excited about those groundbreakingsbecause we haven’t had any building built here, municipal buildings, since1974, which I wasn’t even born. And to be able to give those for our firemen,policemen and women as well, as well as our court staff and personnel, newbuildings, I mean, I’m very honored about that,” said West Memphis Mayor MarcoMcClendon.
Mayor McClendon says the city will break ground onanother fire station by the end of the month.
The fire station and courthouse are expected to bedone by fall 2020.
