COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Tennessee’s House Speaker Cameron Sexton met with community leaders in Collierville Monday to discuss the upcoming legislative session.
Sexton talked with Local 24 News about several topics, includingthe education savings program. When asked about the controversial schoolvouchers account that will be implemented in Shelby County, House Speaker Sextonsays it’s unlikely the law will be changed.
“We’ve never, ever gone down a road to undo something thatwas passed by a constitutional majority, so I don’t really think it’s gonna goanywhere. But people have the right to file legislation, so we’ll see whathappens,” he said.
If that is the case, the school vouchers program will start in ShelbyCounty this year.
Sexton says that this year the administration will focus on threebig policy issues, including healthcare, criminal justice, and governmentassistance.
