MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- Local kids learned about eye health while visiting the Memphis Zoo Saturday.
Various stations were set up at different animal exhibits as part of “Eye Spy: A Day At The Zoo.”
Each one offered interactive activities and games through the Southern College of Optometry.
“We want kids especially to learn about their eyes because a lot of them go into school and they end up doing poorly in school, and it’s not due to an actual academic reason,” said Alexis Hogan of the Memphis Zoo. “They literally just can’t see, so we’re trying to educate people to go get eye exams for their kids before school starts, so that way they are doing the best they can in school.“
Children also learned about night vision and the differences between human and animal eyes.
The children who did well during games won movie passes, free trips to the zoo, and Memphis Redbirds tickets.
