MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com)- A mentoring group worked with a local barbershop to give free haircuts and backpacks to children headed back to school Monday.
The Magic Dads Youth Mentor Group hosted their 5th Annual Back to School Bash in Whitehaven.
This year, the Magic Dads got help from the ladies for the ministry, “Saved in the City,” to style young girls’ hair for free.
“We just do as many as we can just try to send these guys back to school with a fresh look and confidence feeling good themselves, entering the school year,” said local barber Chris Clayton.
Since opening in 2014, Magic Hands barbershop has been a safe haven where neighborhood boys can socialize in a positive environment.
Organizers say they want to get the children started on the right track without the stresses that are common in urban communities.
