Local musician Omar Higgins has died at the age of 37.
A lead singer and bassist of both reggae band Chinese Connection Dub Embassy and Hardcore Punk band Negro Terror, Higgins was a beloved member of the Memphis music community.
A GoFundMe page was started on his behalf last week. According to the page, Higgins was suffering from bad flu-like symptoms and severe back pain.
Earlier this month, he was admitted to the ICU at Methodist Hospital downtown and was diagnosed with a mini-stroke and a staph infection from a sore on his back.
Friends and family have taken to social media with an outpouring of sadness and support for Higgins.
Funeral arrangements are pending according to the band’s Facebook page.
