Man charged with first-degree murder in connection to apartment shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to a shooting at an apartment complex in South Memphis, according to the affidavit.

Emmanuel Sampson, 27, faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery.

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to a shooting call in the 1400 block of Kansas Street at the Montgomery Place Apartments around 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2024.

The victim was taken to a fire station in a private car and then taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries, as stated in reports.

The affidavit indicates that the victim and a witness, had gone to the apartments to drop off his dog for the weekend. As the victim was leaving, he was confronted by several men who surrounded him and began patting him down. 

Sampson, identified as the man with a gun, shot the victim before stealing his wallet and gun.

The affidavit reports that Sampson fled the scene immediately afterward.

Investigators received tips about Sampson on Sept. 15, including social media posts linking him to the shooting.

Reports indicate that two witnesses identified Sampson as the shooter in a photo lineup.
