Man charged with second degree murder after deadly shooting on Rayner Street and stolen guns found, Memphis police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is dead after shooting took place in the 1300 block of Rayner Street early Saturday morning, according to Memphis police.

Kordelro Harris, 36, is now faces multiple charges such as second degree murder, aggravated assault and theft of a piece of property valued between $1,000 and $2,500.

Officers said they originally responded at about 4:30 a.m. and found two victims. One woman was taken to Regional One in critical condition, according to MPD.  

Police later said that this woman died.

One man was taken there in non-critical, according to MPD.

An affidavit from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office states that MPD officers found the victim on the ground with a gunshot wound. Harris was reportedly inside the home with a stab wound on his left hand.

The victim and the suspect were living together and in a sexual relationship, according to the affidavit. 

The affidavit states that the defendant told officers that two men wearing ski masks armed with guns and a knife kicked in his bedroom door demanding money. Later, investigators confronted the defendant with evidence that contradicted this story, according to the affidavit. 

Then, the defendant told police that he and the victim were arguing when she supposedly stabbed his hand before the defendant grabbed the gun from the dresser and shot the victim who was running away from the defendant, according to the affidavit. 

Police four children inside the house who were unarmed, according to the affidavit. Their ages are 17, 9, 6 and 2, according to the affidavit. 

A bloody 9mm handgun that was reported stolen to police during an auto burglary in December of 2021 was found in the residence by police as well as several 9mm casings, according to the affidavit. 

A stolen rifle that was reported stolen to police in February of 2018 was also found in the house, according to the affidavit. Some marijuana as well as a clear baggie with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine was found, according to the affidavit. 

The defendant admitted to owning the stolen firearms and the marijuana that officers found, according to the affidavit.
