The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved-shooting involving Memphis police officers. The man who died has been identified as 20-year-old Abdoulaye Thiam.
According to the TBI, shortly after 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Memphis police officers responded to a domestic violence call at 1317 Timothy Street in Whitehaven. As officers arrived on the scene, they say Thiam ran toward them with a knife. Based on the initial investigation, three officers fired their guns, hitting him. Thiam died on the scene.
No police officers were injured during the incident. All three officers involved have been routinely relieved of duty, pending the outcome of the investigation. The identity of the officers involved will not be released until they have been debriefed by MPD.
Memphis police say body cam video was recovered by the TBI from all three officers. It is currently being reviewed.
This continues to be an active and ongoing investigation.
Once the investigation is complete, the TBI will present its findings to the Shelby County District Attorney for consideration and review.
