Teen charged in shooting death of man in Downtown Memphis

23-year-old Dylan Lovell was shot and killed on S. Main in April

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — UPDATE 5/18/2021: The Memphis Police Department has charged a 16-year-old in the April shooting death of an Arkansas man in Downtown Memphis.

23-year-old Dylan Lovell, from Marion, was shot and killed during a robbery in the area of S. Main and Peabody Place on April 17.

The teen is charged with 1st Degree Murder to/wit Perpetration of Aggravated Robbery and Employment of a Weapon During a Dangerous Felony.  He is in custody at the Shelby County Juvenile Detention Center.

UPDATE 4/21/2021: The victim in the April 17 shooting death in Downtown Memphis has been identified as 23-year-old Dylan Lovell.

According to a family friend, Dylan Lovell was from Marion, Arkansas.

The investigation in this case is ongoing.

A man is dead after a shooting in Downtown Memphis on Saturday night.

Memphis police say just before 10:00 p.m. two men approached the victims who were sitting in a red Chevy Monte Carlo SS, which was stopped due to heavy traffic, on Beale Street near Main Street.  The suspects pulled out handguns and told the the victims to “drop it off.” 

As the victims tried to drive away one of the suspects fired a shot into the vehicle hitting the front seat passenger. The two suspects ran from the scene westbound on Beale street towards Riverside Drive. 

The suspect is described as:

Suspect #1:  Man with dark complexion, 5’9” to 6’0”, 17-25 years-old, wearing a white hoodie, light-colored blue jeans, a blue medical mask, and armed with a handgun. 

Suspect #2:  Man, medium to dark complexion, 5’6” to 5’9”, 17-25 years-old, wearing a dark hoodie, blue jeans, and armed with a handgun.

No arrests have been made at this point.

This is an ongoing investigation.
