MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department said a man is charged after a two-year-old child was shot.
Sheriff Kenny Dickerson told ABC24 it happened about midnight Sunday into Monday morning on Thornton Cove in Marshall County, Mississippi.
Sheriff Dickerson said a man and woman were arguing when a gun went off and shot the child who was lying in bed. He said the child was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition.
A local mother reacted to ABC24 after hearing about the incident.
Kristin Smith says, What are you even goes through your mind when you hear something like that? That I wanna think about something else. So I don’t cry. It’s awful, but it’s every day."
The sheriff told ABC24 Tuesday that 32-year-old Eduardo Montero was arraigned and charged with four counts of attempted murder, three counts of felony child abuse, and one count of domestic violence - aggravated assault. His bond is set at $2 million.
The sheriff also said more charges are expected because there were other people inside of the house at the time of the shooting.
