MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) announced a new chairman for their board of commissioners Tuesday, naming a former lead staffer for Congressman Steve Cohen, from Memphis, as their board leader.

MATA announced Michael Fulton as the new chairman for their board of commissioners.

Before joining MATA, Fulton worked as a staffer for U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen as his primary advisor on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Fulton currently works as the director of government affairs and business development for the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA), running business development operations for the Memphis airport.

Memphis Mayor Paul Young led the appointment process.

"Creating a strong public transportation system is a key factor in our city's ability to attract talent and industry; Memphis can’t be competitive without investing in this crucial infrastructure," said Memphis Mayor Paul Young in a press release. "The MATA board has a big job to do and I am excited about the expertise and energy both of these board members bring to the table."
