MBI investigating deadly shooting in Corinth where officers were involved, Dept. of Public Safety says

CORINTH, Miss — A shooting where deputies in Mississippi struck a man they said was threatening to harm himself and others took place on Saturday, according to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

The Alcorn County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for service on County Road 575 in Corinth, Mississippi on June 8, according to the department. 

The department said the following information is "preliminary" and subject to change:

Once Alcorn Sheriff's Office deputies arrived, they encountered the man they said had a weapon and was threatening to harm himself as well as others. The deputies then got out their weapons and struck this man, according to the department.

The deputies did not receive any serious physical injury, the department said.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is "currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence," according to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

The agents with the MBI are said to be sharing their findings with the Attorney General's Office once their investigation is done.
