The Mississippi Department of Transportation has revealed its eyes in the skies to help keep drivers safe. MDOT demonstrated Wednesday how it uses drones on transportation infrastructure projects across the state.
While touting the near completion of the Interstate 269 project expected this fall, officials explained the importance of this technology on state roads and bridges.
“Compared to traditional bridge inspection process and safety implementations of using employees for that kind of bridge inspection, specifically those of the more-lengthy spans, this is much more cheaper and effective and efficient,” said Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert.
MDOT says the drones are also used for emergency response, like severe storms that would impact infrastructure.
