Later this morning a solemn flag raising ceremony will take place at the Memphis Child Advocacy Center. This will be in memory of the four children taken from us too soon.
Their mother, Shanynthia Gardner, is accused of killing Tallen, Sya, Sahvi, and Yahzi Gardner.
This flag raising ceremony will be different from others.
Organizers at MCAC say for the first time, four flags will go up at the same time, each representing one of the four children killed.
Opening remarks will be provided by the Memphis Child Advocacy Executive Director Virginia Stallworth and closing remarks by District Attorney Amy Weirich.
“I’m never ready to see one flag go up. To see four flags go up, is going to be a new experience, a very sad day,” said Stallworth.
There will also be an longer moment of silence for each child. Typically, opening and closing remarks are made.
Organizers said this ceremony happens every time a child dies in Shelby County as a result of abuse or neglect.
