MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Saturday was the last day to celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). To mark the end of the festivities, the Memphis Brooks Museum held it’s annual parade and festival.
Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican holiday that celebrates and honors friends and family members who have died.
Marchers made their way fromTower Courtyard at Overton Square to the Plaza at the Museum.
Families were invited tohonor ancestors and celebrate the cycle of life and death.
“They say the moment you forgetyour loved ones, that’s the moment they really die. So, we don’t want that, wewant to keep them in our minds and in our hearts,” said Monica Sanchez,Artistic Director of Cazateatro.
After arriving for the parade, attendees had free entry into the museum and enjoyed art-making activities, costumed performers and music.
