MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Thousands of people gathered Sunday to celebrate 901 Day, which offered numerous ways to enjoy and engage with the city.
With various celebrations and concerts, visitors told ABC24 that this is the best way to bring out positivity around Memphis.
901 Day featured music, movies, dance performances, vendors, and food trucks. Ladia Yates, one of the organizers, said she could not be happier about how the day turned out.
‘901 Day is amazing,” she said. “The number one thing about this event that’s important to me is that it’s unifying the community. So all I see is smiles and good vibes, and that’s what’s most important.”
City officials said this has been 901 Day’s most prominent event ever, and they intend to do even more next year, adding that 901 Day makes them proud to be from Memphis.
“Personally, 901 Day means soul, it means culture, it means home,” said Toni Holmon-Turner, who is with Public Media Affairs at the City of Memphis. “There’s nothing like the 901. You cannot get this flavor in any other city in the world.”
The event ended with a surprise concert from Memphis-native and rapper Glorilla. Many visitors said they will be back next year to see what other surprises the city has in store and celebrate in an enthusiastic and positive environment.
