The Memphis Botanic Garden may have well been called the Memphis Boo-tanic Garden the Saturday before Halloween.
A not-so-spooky celebration took place at the garden and featured friendly Halloween characters, music to boogie-man down to and some hair-raising fun.
The garrden organized the event as a safe daytime alternative to traditional door-to-door trick or treating. Stops for treats, hands-on activities, learning opportunities, and much more were present at the celebration.
Patti Barry is the Children and Family Programming Coordinator at the Botanic Garden.
"It's great getting kids back to nature," Barry said. "Some of our events are nature-inspired. We have [an event] called 'Nature's Candy Store' [where] the kids are learning about where candy actually comes from, and then of course they get a treat."
Those looking for other Halloween-centric activities to take their family to need not look too far.
One event in the Bluff City — "Zoo Boo" — takes place from 6 p.m. until 9:30 on select nights at the Memphis Zoo leading up to (and during) Halloween. Halloween attire is not required but encouraged at the "Boo."
There's sure to be pumpkin to talk about with whatever Memphians decide to do for the holiday this year.
