MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In November, Memphis voters will decide whether to create new residency requirements for mayoral and city council candidates.
The Memphis City Council approved the third and final reading to put the residency question on the Nov. 5 ballot.
Voters will decide whether to change the City of Memphis charter and vote on a new requirement that a mayor or city council member candidate must live in Memphis city limits at least two years before the city's election day.
The council needed to approve the referendum this month to meet the deadline to get it on the November ballot.
