MEMPHIS, Tenn. — On Wednesday, Nov. 15, District 31 Senator Brent Taylor announced that he is asking Tennessee governor Bill Lee to help with crime in the Memphis area.
In a letter addressed to the governor, he mentions several recent crimes in the area, including the murder of St. Jude employee Alexander Bulakhov on Sunday, Nov. 12.
The senator is requesting more help from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, including unannounced "surges" of patrols on Memphis highways, a "monitoring" team to better track crime data, including how defendants are prosecuted, and finally, support of Republican-led efforts to hold the judicial system more accountable.
He claimed Memphis and Shelby County is in a "very dangerous situation."
"Memphis needs help to save it from future ruin," Taylor said. "The State of Tennessee cannot be successful if its most famous city is not successful."
As of now, Governor Lee has not commented on Taylor's request.
