MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A person was detained after a Crump Station officer was struck by a stolen car on Wednesday night.

According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), Crump Station officers responded to a disturbance call at 1141 Kyle Street just after 9 p.m. on August 7, 2024.

The owner of an Airbnb called the police to stop a large party that was not authorized by the home owner.

After arriving at the house, an officer noticed a black Kia Singer in the driveway with duct tape covering the license plate.

Police say a man entered and started the car up while the officer was inspecting it.

The officer opened the driver's door to stop him from leaving but the man drove off with the door open.

The car hit the officer and knocked him to the ground. He then advised officers over radio that he had been run over, says MPD.

Police immediately began pursuit of the suspect vehicle, which was seen going onto Airways Station and then back onto Crump Station.

The pursuit concluded when the suspect crashed into construction beams at E.H. Crump/Kansas.

The suspect fled on foot but was caught and taken into custody.

According to MPD, the Kia Stinger was stolen in Ridgeway Station.

MPD says the suspect was in possession of a stolen black Glock 19, 9mm, loaded with one in the chamber and 18 in the magazine. He was also in possession of a vehicle programmer.

The suspect and programmer were taken to Felony Response for further investigation.

Crime Scene officers made the scene and collected the handgun.

Another stolen car, white 2021 Dodge Durango, was recovered across the street in the Kyle Street parking lot of Glenview Park.
