Memphis Fire Department investigates two fires set in a month at Frayser club

MFD investigators said the first fire was set at The Excitement Lounge on Dec. 2, then a second bigger fire was set on Jan. 2.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Fire Department is investigating a second fire in a month at a Frayser nightclub.

Firefighters responded to the latest fire at The Excitement Restaurant and Lounge in the 3100 block of North Watkins near Dellwood Ave. about 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, Jan 2, 2024.

Investigators said the fire had been set at multiple points inside the building, causing a total of $205,000 damage. They said no one was hurt in the fire.

This comes a month after another fire at the club on Dec. 2, 2023. Memphis Fire investigators said that fire happened about 2:15 a.m. and was set inside the front window. That fire caused a total of about $11,000 damage and no one was hurt.

Investigators listed the cause of both fires as 'incendiary.'
