MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A child had to be taken to the hospital, but otherwise is safe, after they were trapped inside a burning apartment in Hickory Hill and rescued by firefighters, according to the Memphis Fire Department.

MFD said their crews responded to an apartment fire at 6400 Kirby Trees Drive Thursday morning.

Upon arrival, the crews found light smoke and noticed a child in need of rescue at a window.

MFD said they successfully rescued the child, who was then taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire is under control, and firefighters are still investigating how it started.
