Memphis Hits 200th Homicide of 2016

A nightclub patron has become Memphis’ 200th homicide victim of the year. The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Deangelo Gray.

A nightclub patron has become Memphis’ 200th homicide victim of the year. The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Deangelo Gray.

According to Memphis police, Gray was shot outside of James Lounge on Summer Avenue in Binghampton around 12:15 A.M. Monday. Police say some sort of disturbance outside of the lounge nearly escalated into a fight. They say as security and customers went back inside, someone heard a shot and found the victim on the side of the building, in the 600 block of Hillcrest.

Gray was taken to Regional One, where he died.

No one is in custody. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.

The record for number of homicides in one year is 213 back in 1993.
