Home invasion suspects pose as utility workers, says MPD

The suspects claimed they needed access to the homeowner's backyard to access a utility pole.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two home invasion robbery suspects posed as utility workers on Friday morning, Sept. 20, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

MPD responded to a report of the robbery in the 4800 block of Verne around 9 a.m. 

The suspects claimed they needed access to the victim's backyard to access a utility pole. MPD says, when the homeowner opened the door, they rushed in and pointed guns at the victim.

One suspect restrained the victim with duct tape while the other searched the home. The suspects stole about $4,000, a handgun, and the keys to a Chevy Tahoe. The suspects fled in the victim’s car, leaving the victim bound.

MPD has since located the victim's car.

Suspect 1 is described as a male, 5’10”, in his 50s, wearing a white hard hat, lower face mask, orange vest, neon green shirt, and tan pants. Suspect 2 is =6’0”, heavy set, has gold teeth and a beard, and wore a black Nike skull cap, a neon green MDOT shirt, and tan pants, armed with a black semi-auto handgun.
