MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis International Airport has a new Chief of Police. The Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority (MSCAA) announced June 25, 2024, that James 'Wes' Blair has been appointed to the position.
MSCAA’s current and longtime police chief, Jerry Brandon, is retiring in the fall of 2024. Blair begins on Aug. 12.
MSCAA said Blair began in law enforcement in California as a United States border patrol agent more than 30 years ago. Most recently, he served as the Cape Girardeau Police Chief in Missouri, a position he has held since 2013.
“As the new police chief at Memphis International Airport, I am excited to join a dynamic team dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of travelers and staff,” said Blair in a news release. “I look forward to leveraging my experience and expertise to uphold the highest standard of law enforcement, collaborating with airport stakeholders to implement innovative strategies, and fostering a culture of professionalism within the organization. Together, we will continue to safeguard the airport community and uphold public trust in our services.”

The Memphis Airport Police Department is a fully accredited, independent law enforcement agency. The Department covers the 3,900 acres of property which includes not just the airport terminal, but the tenant facilities, businesses, roads, runways, and more.
