Memphis man charged with DUI in Tunica County crash that killed man and woman

The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office said Dwayne Bowens, 45, is charged with two counts of DUI resulting in death in the crash that killed two people.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man is charged in a deadly weekend crash in Tunica County, Mississippi.

The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office said Dwayne Bowens, 45, is charged with two counts of DUI resulting in death, driving while license was suspended, and no insurance.

According to investigators, deputies were called to a crash about 7:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, on Casino Strip Blvd., near Fitzgerald’s Blvd. They found David Bailey Barbour, 63, of Byhalia, dead at the scene. They said Elizabeth Ann Russon, 67, of Myrtle, Mississippi, died on the way to the hospital.

Deputies said Bowens was taken to Baptist DeSoto Hospital with minor injuries, then was taken to the Tunica County Jail once released.
