MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Tigers men's basketball team is giving back to the community.
The team went to the McFarland Community Center in southeast Memphis on Thursday, Dec. 21, and handed out more than 100 toys to kids and gave away 150 tickets to their game against the University of Texas at San Antonio on Jan. 10, 2024.
The City of Memphis also gave an assist, providing Christmas meals to families.
Tigers basketball head coach Penny Hardaway said he will always have his team give back because he remembers where he came from, knowing how important it was just to receive a toy when he was younger.
"A lot of underprivileged kids and unfortunate kids, like I was, couldn't really afford a lot of things, and you didn't take this for granted," Hardaway said. "So coming in as a coach now for Memphis, it's always a fun time where we get back out in the community and be around our fans and our people, and I always love this time of year."
