MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police announced the funeral arrangements for an officer killed in the line of duty when a driver crashed into his police cruiser.
Officer Demetrice Johnson was killed Friday, August 2, when a driver who had previously been shot crashed into his cruiser. Another officer inside the cruiser was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Memphis Police also released details for a Sea of Blue, a tradition where the department celebrates the life of a fallen officer by parading their vehicles down a specified route, lighting up their blue emergency lights. The ceremony will take place the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Officer Johnson served with the Memphis Police Department for just over a year, graduating from the Memphis Police Department Training Academy in March 2024. He was assigned to North Main Station.
