MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are investigating a scene at Winchester Road and Ridgeway Road that left a man injured, and the investigation has all lanes of traffic on Winchester between Ridgeway and Kirby Road blocked.
Memphis Police said they responded to a disturbance call at the 6300 block of Winchester at around 10:30 a.m. They said a man went into a parking lot in the 6200 block of Winchester after they arrived.
According to MPD, an officer tried to de-escalate a situation, deploying his taser. The man then fired a shot from a gun hidden in his jacket, striking himself, MPD said.
The man was taken to Regional One Health in critical condition, according to MPD.
Police said no officers fired shots in this incident, which is still under investigation.
MPD has all eastbound and westbound lanes on Winchester blocked for the investigation.
