Officer injured after crash in Parkway Village

Police said the call came in Wednesday shortly before 2 a.m., regarding a crash that had took place on Getwell Road and American Way.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An officer was taken to the hospital after getting involved in a crash that happened early Wednesday morning in Parkway Village.

The Memphis Police Department said the call came in Jan. 10 shortly before 2 a.m., regarding the crash that had taken place on Getwell Road and American Way.

The officer was taken to Regional One Health in non-critical condition and received a citation for failure to maintain a safe lookout. The driver of the second vehicle, which police said had been stolen, was also taken to Regional One Health in non-critical condition. He had misdemeanor warrants and was additionally charged with evading arrest and auto theft.

Police said the passenger was arrested on misdemeanor warrants. The passenger refused medical treatment.

Investigators said the officer had begun initiating a traffic stop, turning on his blue lights and then turning them off. He continued to follow the other vehicle before the crash happened.

The vehicle had been stolen Nov. 18, according to police. 

According to Memphis Police, its officers were involved in 513 crashes in 2022. An officers was found at fault in 174 of those crashes. In 2023, MPD officers were involved in 466 crashes, and an officer was at fault in 166 of those.
