Three Memphis Police Officers are being recognized for going above the call of duty.

The three helped a Memphian who had fallen out of his wheelchair when a wheel broke.

Here’s the Facebook post from Memphis Police:

Three Memphis Police Officers were spotted going above the call of duty.

On January 3, 2019 Officers Byers, Helbig, and Whitney were dispatched to assist a citizen that fell out of a wheelchair.

Officers arrived on the scene to find the citizen laying on the sidewalk. A wheel broke off his electric wheelchair. Officers put the citizen back in his wheelchair and spent fifteen minutes with tools trying to reattach the broken wheel. The wheelchair could not be repaired.

Officers attempted to give the citizen a ride, but the citizen was unable to fit inside the squad car. Officer Helbig decided to push the citizen a quarter of a mile in the wheelchair while balancing the wheelchair on its rear wheels to keep the wheelchair from tipping over. Officers Byers and Whitney assisted with traffic control as Officer Helbig pushed the citizen to his destination.

Thank you Officers Helbig, Byers, and Whitney you are indeed the #BestInBlue
