It was a day of celebration for the Memphis Police Department as fifty-six officers were promoted Thursday morning.
Five officers were promoted to “Major”, eighteen were promoted to “Lieutenant”, and thirty-three were promoted to “Sergeant”.
Mayor Jim Strickland was on hand to congratulate the officers.
The promotions had significant meaning to those in the police department.
“This couldn’t have happened without the officers that supported me all through the years. I’m really honored and humbled,” says newly promoted Major Latanya Able.
“All of [these promotions] are important because it’s all part of the bigger system that helps make the Memphis Police department work,” says Memphis Police director Michael Rallings.
The Memphis Police Department has promoted around three hundred officers since Mayor Strickland took office.
