Memphis Public Libraries' Library of Things offers non-traditional items for DIY projects

Crafters can now try before they buy with the Library of Things' "Get It Done!" collection, which offers a range of creative tools and materials.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Library of Things at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Memphis Public Library (MPL) offers a variety of tools and materials that Memphians can now check out for their DIY project needs.

Crafters can now finish a creative project, explore new hobbies, or borrow tools from the "Get it Done" collection at MPL without having to worry about the cost of one-time-use supplies.

Anyone 18 or older with a library card in good standing can check out up to two different items at a time. The checkout period is 7 days and can be renewed up to 2 times, provided there are no holds. Items must not be returned in book drops.

The "Get it Done!" collection includes the following supplies: 

Arts & Crafts

  • Crochet hook set kit
  • Embroidery hoop set
  • Sewing machine

Cookware

  • Bread maker
  • Ice cream maker

Education

  • Stay sharp kits
  • Children's sensory kits
  • Book in a bag book club kits

Gardening

  • Soil tester
  • Gardening tool set

Instruments

  • Ukuleles

Recreation

Tools and Electronics

  • Drill and tool set
  • Socket set
  • Allen wrench set
  • Infrared Thermometer
  • Thermal camera
