MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Brother Juniper's offered a free meal to those in need on Christmas Day.
The restaurant, which centers its values around on food, family, community and church life, has been feeding those less fortunate on Christmas for 34 years.
According to Jonathan Koplin, owner of Brother Juniper's, the restaurant had around 25 volunteers this Christmas and served ham, turkey, stuffing, green beans and pumpkin pie to around 250 people.
"We try to give people a prayerful place to get out of the world and eat their food," Koplin said. "It's very humbling seeing how much poverty and how much need is in Memphis."
Memphian Bobby Bozeman said he knows what it is like to be homeless and starve of malnutrition, which is why he loves Brother Juniper's.
"They care about the people that are having to live on the street or that can't afford to pay the rent," he said. "I'm a disabled vet. I'm just honored that somebody cares about us...to do something for people like that."
Koplin said this annual tradition is only a small thing the restaurant can do to help the community.
"Thanks to the Lord. Somebody still cares," Bozeman said.
