Memphis, Shelby County first responders traveling to Georgia to help those affected by Hurricane Debby

45 members of Tennessee Task Force 1 are en-route to Macon, Georgia for urban search and rescue efforts.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — 45 members of Tennessee Task Force 1, a group consisting of first responders from the Memphis Fire Department (MFD) and the Shelby County Fire Department, deployed to Georgia on Sunday, August 4, 2024, to help those affected by Hurricane Debby.

MFD said the team consists of firefighters, paramedics, doctors, engineers and canine teams, deploying to Macon, Georgia Sunday at 10:00 a.m., to be responsible for urban search and rescue efforts. The department said they will provide updates when available, but don't know how long the taskforce will stay.

"Please keep the entire [Tennessee Task Force 1] team, Shelby County Fire Department, Bartlett Fire, Germantown Fire, Collierville Fire, Covington Fire and Millington Fire members, other responding teams, and all those who may be affected by Tropical Storm Debby in your thoughts and prayers in the days to come," MFD said in a statement.
