Memphis Showboats player Diondre Overton dies in overnight shooting, says Guilford County Sheriff's Office

He was 26 years old.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Showboats player Diondre Overton died in an overnight shooting in Greensboro on Saturday, according to the Guilford County Sheriff's Office (GCSO).

At around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, deputies responded to a call about a loud house party and noise disturbance at 3205 Spring Mill Rd. Upon arriving, they discovered that a shooting had occurred at the location.

Deputies found 26-year-old Overton had been shot on the scene. Despite medical aid, Overton was pronounced dead, according to GCSO. 

The investigation suggests that this was an isolated incident. GCSO says it remains an active and ongoing homicide investigation. 

Overton wore #16 on the field and was a wide receiver on the 2024 Memphis Showboats roster.
