MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department (MPD) arrested an 18-year-old Saturday night, Nov. 9, after allegedly leading Memphis Police on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen vehicle.
Officers responded to an armed robbery call at the Mobil Gas Station located in the 800 block of S. Third Street just after 6:30 p.m. The victim told MPD that two suspects approached her while she was putting air in the tire of her Toyota Highlander.
She reported that one of the suspects hit her in the head with a handgun before stealing her money, wallet, and iPhone 15.
The suspects then fled the scene in her car.
The victim described one of the suspects as wearing a black ski mask, a white hoodie, white pants, and black shoes, armed with a handgun.
At 6:45 p.m., authorities broadcasted a description of the stolen car and suspects.
Twenty minutes later, officers spotted the stolen black Toyota Highlander, near Warren Street and East Alcy Road.
When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver of the Toyota failed to pull over, leading police on a pursuit. The chase continued as the driver reportedly disregarded multiple stop signs and traffic signals, driving at high speeds through the streets of Memphis. The suspect eventually hit a utility pole, a mailbox, and an unoccupied car before crashing.
After the crash, officers saw the driver, dressed in all-white clothing, exit the vehicle and flee on foot. He was quickly arrested and identified as Martavn Wilson.
Wilson now faces several charges, including carjacking, aggravated robbery, employment of a firearm during the commission of a felony, evading arrest in a vehicle, and reckless driving.
Wilson's next court date is set for Monday, Nov. 11, 2024.
