MEMPHIS, Tenn — For those in the Bluff City feeling a little spooky, there are a few ways to get into the Halloween spirit the weekend before the holiday itself.
Whether bringing the young ones around (or not), here are some spine-chilling activities and events to attend at your own risk:
Get stepping at Botanic Garden
If the idea of cardio sounds like the proper fright, you can head to the Botanic Garden for the "Halloween Hike." It's happening Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets run from $10 to $15, and it promises to be fun for all ages.
The event is described by the Garden's site as a "safe daytime alternative to traditional door-to-door trick or treating." There will be activities for the kids with a few stops for treats along the way as well as food trucks for a more balanced meal.
Get into the spirit of fall
Also on Saturday is the Binghampton Fall Festival. It's happening at the Gateway Center on 480 Tillman Street from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is free and said to have plenty of crafts, treats and booths featuring local businesses.
Get scared at 'Zoo Boo'
At "Zoo Boo" kids can wear their costumes and bring bags for trick-or-treating at the Memphis Zoo. Attendees can also light up their very own monster at the "Monster Creation Studio."
Sponsored by Le Bonheur, the event takes place from 6 p.m. until 9:30 on select nights at the Memphis Zoo leading up to (and during) Halloween. Halloween attire is not required but encouraged at the "Boo."
Get your motor running at 'Cars on Main'
For those already past the jump scares, events that aren't Halloween-themed are also taking place. "Cars on main" is happening on Riverside Drive on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. it is said to take place between Jefferson and Union
The event is free and is said to feature more than 150 exotic cars for spectators to view. There will also reportedly be a helicopter, tank, fire truck and race cars as well as some live music.
