MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One location of the popular Tops Bar-B-Q chain in Memphis has closed temporarily after a fire.

Tops officials said a fire happened at the location on Summer Ave. at National St. early Thursday morning, Oct. 17, 2024. They said no one was hurt, and firefighters were able to put the fire out.

They said the restaurant would be closed for an “undetermined amount of time due to damage.”

“As the safety and security of Tops employees, customers, and communities is our top priority, we are thankful to report that no one was injured in the fire today at Tops Summer National,” said Randy Hough, CEO, Tops Bar-B-Q, in a statement.

“We appreciate the work by the Memphis Fire Department to extinguish the fire and our quick-thinking employees who reported the fire, which we believe was caused by mechanical issues. At this time, the Summer National location will be closed until repairs can be completed. We are working to determine the extent of the damage and a plan for repairs and reopening. We would love to see our customers at any of our other 16 locations, including the Tops on Summer at Berclair just right down the road.”
