Memphis Towers residents want tax breaks revoked for management company

Residents said they have been living in unhygienic and dangerous conditions for a long time.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Towers tenants' union met with the Memphis Health, Education, and Housing Facility Board to express their concerns regarding the lack of safety in their homes.

They are urging the board to revoke the tax breaks Memphis Towers receives.

Residents said they have been living in unhygienic and dangerous conditions for a long time, as they have repeatedly reported.

“I literally stay out of my apartment as much as I can,” said Brianna Washington. “I have two bullet holes in my door and in my wall. I leave to go to work and they are shooting. Because I am afraid that the bullet, it’s going to hit me when I’m trying to go to work.”

The medical district apartments are managed by Millennia Management. The tenants claim Millennia currently receives $400,000 in tax breaks from the Health Education and Housing Facility board.
