Memphis woman seeking solutions for litter and animal feces on Midtown street

Broken bottles, cups and other litter can be found all over South Morrison St in Midtown.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. —

A Memphis woman is concerned about litter and animal feces left behind on a Midtown street.  She doesn’t even live in Midtown Memphis.

Christina Wang was dog sitting on South Morrison Street earlier this month when she noticed the mess on the streets and sidewalks.

"There is just so much trash and broken glass on the street. And it just makes it really hard to feel comfortable walking around in this area,” said Wang.

Although Wang does not live on South Morrison and doesn’t see much litter in her own neighborhood, she wants to make sure officials are keeping the entire city clean.

"I think we should all be working toward a cleaner Memphis. Everybody should be able to walk on clean sidewalks and have clean yards,” said Wang.

Olivia Montgomery who does live in Midtown says her street is relatively clean but still wants the city to do more.

"I wish they came by more often, but it's a big city with a lot of leaves,” said Montgomery.

The City of Memphis said due to the number of street sweepers available and the size of the city, each street is only cleaned a few times a year.

The city added that South Morrison had had actually recently been cleaned.

For in between street sweeping, the city recommends contacting Memphis City Beautiful to help pick up the litter.

According to the city's 311 app, there were two requests near South Morrison over the last three months, specifically asking the city to bring street sweepers to the area.

The city added they will send crews to evaluate the litter issue on South Morrison on Thursday, March 28.
