Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare continues its centennial celebration with the release of a new book. Titled “The Power Of One,” it documents the health care system’s past hundred years.
It was 100 years ago when a Mississippi farmer named John Sherard was visiting a sick pastor. He became inspired to build what would become Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital.
Officials say his story demonstrates the healthcare system’s overall mantra that one person has the power to affect change.
“One single individual person, individual action is what has resulted in Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. So, we call it the power of one,” said Michael Ugwueke, President & CEO of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. “The power of one individual taking responsibility, seeing the need, and fulfilling that need.”
Several family members of the hospital’s founder were also in attendance at Friday’s unveiling.
