Mid-South Boy Scouts with Pack 278 built and raced their own soapbox cars Saturday for the 65th Annual Pinewood Derby.
Prizes were offered to the fastest car and the coolest paint scheme.
One young man said he has a secret design that has helped him win three times in the past five years.
“They give you a block of wood and you have to cut it how you think would do best. We put weights in it to make it heavy, so it will go down, and you put the wheels on it and graphite on it and put a little bit of butter on it to make it shine,” said Andersen Henry, the Pinewood Derby champion.
Scouts from other packs competed in similar races all around the city.
