Here's where you can dispose of medication during National Drug Take Back Day on Oct. 26

TN Together, an organization working to combat addiction in communities, created a list of acceptable and unacceptable items to bring to state-wide events.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Looking to rid yourself of unused or expired medications? Are you worried these supplements may get into the hands of children? National Prescription Drug Take Back Day events across the Mid-South and Tennessee are here to help. 

The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS) is encouraging residents in Tennessee to participate in state-wide events for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

TN Together, an organization working to combat addiction in communities, created a list of acceptable and unacceptable items to bring to these state-wide events below: 

Acceptable

  • Liquid medications (in leak-proof containers)
  • Medicated ointment, lotions, or drops
  • Pills in any packaging (glass bottles, plastic containers, plastic bags, etc.)
  • Over-the-counter medications Liquid medications (in leak-proof containers)
  • Pet medications

Forbidden 

  • Blood sugar equipment
  • Sharps/needles*
  • Illegal drugs & narcotics (police will accept these items if placed in the container)
  • Thermometers*
  • IV bags
  • Bloody or infectious waste
  • Personal care products (shampoo, lotions, etc) safe At-Home Disposal

  • Memphis, Tennessee: 1207 Peabody Ave (Memphis Area Prevention Coalition)
  • Covington, Tennessee: 1995 US 51 S (Tipton Prevents)
  • Collierville, Tennessee: 560 W. Poplar (Walmart)
  • Germantown, Tennessee: 7735 Farmington Boulevard (Kroger)
  • Senatobia, Mississippi: 5219 Highway 51 North (Walmart)
  • Southaven Mississippi: 8691 Northwest Drive (Southaven Police Department)
  • West Memphis, Arkansas: 626 E. Broadway Blvd (West Memphis Police Department)

Most of these locations will be receiving unwanted drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
