Body found in burned car at Memphis impound lot believed to be missing Horn Lake man

MPD says a body was found in a burned car two days after the car was towed to the city's impound lot.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Horn Lake Police have linked a man missing from the city to a body discovered inside of a burnt-out vehicle that was taken to the City of Memphis impound lot.

While the Shelby County Medical Examiner has not confirmed the identity of the victim, Horn Lake Police believe him to be 20-year-old Jaderius Webb.

“He was a good person," Webb's sister said. "He didn’t mess with nobody. He didn’t bother nobody. He didn’t sell weed. He wasn’t no gangbanger. He wasn’t no gang member; everybody loved him.”

MPD officials said first responders made a scene of a vehicle fire at Weaver Road and Tully Road about 3:40 a.m. on July 20, 2024. After extinguishing the fire, the vehicle was taken to the impound lot at 465 Klinke Avenue.

According to MPD Chief CJ Davis, when the vehicle was towed to impound, investigators took photos and completed a report, but neither firefighters nor police "could clearly see charred remains inside the burned vehicle."

Webb’s sister said when she received a call on Saturday morning that her brother was missing, the family started searching. They also filed a missing person's report that morning, Horn Lake Police said.

Chief Davis said on Monday, July 22, two days later, an MPD officer specializing in VIN identification went to examine the burnt-out vehicle and discovered the charred remains in the rear passenger area.

"I love him real bad," said Webb's sister. "The last thing I told my brother is that I love him.”

Memphis police said that based on initial information, the case is being investigated as a homicide.

MPD said they are also conducting a routine internal review of the incident.
