MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Light, Gas and Water said the company is not ordering rolling blackouts after rumors spread about such an event happening Wednesday.

Rumors indicated that a rolling blackout would begin from 3:30-9:30 p.m. on Jan. 17. MLGW President and CEO Doug McGowen said he did not know where the rumors started.

“We are monitoring minute by minute the available power that we have versus the demand, so we’re in very good shape right now,” McGowen said. “Our MLGW systems are responding very well to this.”

He said the power that MLGW obtains from Tennessee Valley Authority is reaching an all-time peak Wednesday morning, but systems are still working, and the company will notify customers if anything changes.
